Or, more specifically, how knockoffs of this (which, as I understand, has been a BMW-only thing for a long time) are making their way into cars like the F-type?

I don't like them. I have driven BMWs with those selectors and I can't stand them. What was wrong with some mechanical linkage?

I don't like the idea behind it at all. That said though, the brand new ones are at least nicely done.

I actually like them. But ONLY BMW's version. Its the only auto-manual I will tolerate. After using them a lot in various models of 550i I found that it has its perks.

I would just be happy to get butt sweat all over the seats of a car like that.

I quite like them.. I guess i'm attracted to quirky, unique parts like that. I also like their SMG/DCT gear knob too..

God damn douche machines wont go into gear with the hood open, but it doesn't have a display telling you why. Ever since the damned SMG M3 this has been going on, if you are too stupid to use a clutch then you can't be trusted to make sure the hoods shut I guess.
